Replacement and repair of expired CESS walkways
Handikram were appointed by Amalgamated Construction to undertake the repair and replacement (as existing) of life expired safe CESS walkways on the LTN 1 between Shenfield and Hatfield Peveral (20m-35m).
This package of works also included the renewal of walkways within exiting cuttings and embankments as required. Works were undertaken under day works (fenced SSOW) and possession’s. The majority of the work was situated in the Down CESS with some minimal length renewals being undertaken on the Up line CESS walkways.
Site access was challenging and required materials to be delivered and vortok barriers to be installed during night time possessions, utilising RRV’s.
De-vegetation works were carried out prior to works to the CESS walkways. Some areas of the walkways required minimal repairs including additional timber stakes, renewal of some side boarding and re-topping of granular infill.
Other areas required complete renewal in accordance with Network Rail standards.
The completion of these works now enables safe access to the track area by Network Rail staff and contractors.
The project was carried out to a high standard of workmanship with positive comments of higher standards set by the Network Rail construction manager.
The works were carried out during the challenging initial Covid-19 lockdown period.
The requirements of our client regarding Covid-19 were fully complied with.
The project was subject to various health and safety audits and recorded no accidents or incidents.
Project was successfully carried out within the programme requirements and within budget.
