Handikram were engaged by the SSE Enterprise Rail team to complete the refurbishment of the passenger footbridge connecting platforms one & two.
The existing timber footbridge had suffered years of decay and various previous repairs leaving the staircases in a poor state of repair.
Handikram were tasked with closing the footbridge, establishing the site and Managing the works with local businesses and the station staff. The passengers were redirected to each platform via alternative routes. Handikram also supplied the onsite construction management for the project.
The works consisted of the following scope:
Temporary propping of the existing stair canopies to allow for the replacement of existing canopy padstones and timber repairs.
A section of staircase and lower landing was removed with new foundation and dwarf wall installed.
Extensive repairs were required to replace the existing timber structure to remove damaged and decayed sections.
These were replaced using Accoya timber and redecorated to match the remaining structure.
Upon completion the footbridge was once again structurally sound and fully refurbished.
