The project required repairs to take place to OLE foundation base fixings. The existing fixings had suffered heavy corrosion. Access to carry out the repairs had to be during a weekend possession due to the track location.
Temporary concrete bases were installed to enable the drilling rig to be mounted in the correct positions. 30mm holes were cored through the existing 15mm steel plate, concrete and steel reinforcing. New fixings were placed using Hilti HY200, A pull test to BS8539:2012 Clause 9.1 to 5kN along with the lock Nuts tightened to 270 Nm.
On completion of the installation the existing fixings repair process could be carried out. This process involved removal of the concrete surface around each fixing allowing the corroded steel to be leaned using abrasive wheels.
The exposed surface was sealed using Webertec EB primer and the concrete made good using Webertec TDS mortar. Finally the temporary concrete bases and their timber shutters were removed.
